The international trade fair for plastics and rubber, K 2013, will feature a special show – “Plastics Move the World,” as well as many presentations by scientists and industry experts regarding ‘hot’ topics in plastics and packaging.

The show takes place October 16 – 23, 2013 at the fairgrounds in Dusseldorf, Germany.

“Plastics Move the World” will show how essential the lightweight material is in automobile design, aircraft, space ships – and even for personal mobility.

Innovations and visionary developments will be presented in the “Plastics move – the future” segment. This will include energy-efficient living as well as future medical applications, water treatment and the food supply for a growing global population. Plastics’ potential to solve future problems such as demographic growth, increasing energy consumption and climate change will also be presented.

Additionally, there will be a daily discussion panel at the trade fair, plus VIP lectures, conducted in both English and German. These will feature scientists and industry experts, talking about complex issues involving plastics, such as marine debris, which threatens oceans and coasts.

On the second day of K 2013, Bertrand Piccard, renowned pioneer in the field of solar-powered aircraft, will present his project. His Solar Impulse craft is currently on its longest mission, crossing the U.S. from San Francisco to New York using only solar energy. In 2015, he plans to complete a non-stop flight around the globe with a solar-powered aircraft.

The show is organized by the German plastics industry, and is supported by PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V. and Messe Dusseldorf.
